The “How can the private sector be profitable and socially and environmentally responsible” seminar lead a productive dialogue between board members, students, coordinators, lawyers and directors across industries. During the 1.5 hour session participants shared existing solutions of sustainability in the private sector and offered suggestions of what they would like to see from governments at Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in June. Midway through the professor Marian Chertow stirred a few laughs after saying bluntly, ‘If your company is not reaching towards sustainability today, you somehow missed the memo’! With less than 90 days remaining on the road to Rio the mood was somewhat optimistic, however it is clear participants want more than fancy John Hancocks at the end of a document on June 23. They want transparent tangible actions of how our governments at Rio+20 propose we get the job done!
